A University of Chicago (U. of C.) student is suing the Illinois chapter and national organization of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Dylan Kanaan, who enrolled at the U. of C. in 2014, filed the suit in Cook County Circuit on July 15 against the fraternity and 13 of its members.

Kanaan alleged that while participating in a formal fraternity ritual on March 7, 2015, he was physically assaulted and forced to drink alcohol to the point of blackout. The next day, Kanaan spent seven hours in the hospital undergoing treatment for injuries he sustained in the assaults
